Make the most of your stay at the Brit Hotel Terminus and discover Angoulême’s touristic treasures.
Comics have become the artistic symbol of the city, and it is considered by many as the capital city of comics. Since 1974, Angoulême has become the home of the international festival of comics, which takes place each January and is one of the most important in Europe. As you roam through the city, marvel at the 24 illustrations that adorn its walls, with famous characters, such as Cubitus, Titeuf, Gaston Lagaffe or Boule & Bill.
Not only is Angoulême a true temple for comics fans, it also has several historic and religious buildings that you will be able to visit during your stay at the Brit hotel Angoulême. The cathedral Saint-Pierre d’Angoulême is a must-go. Built in a roman style during the fourth century, it is considered as one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Charente. This monument is part of a long list of historic sites, including the city Hall, located in the castle of the counts of Angoulême, the castle of La Rochefoucauld known for its spectacular architecture as well as the numerous and charming roman style churches that surround Angoulême.
As part of the city’s rich cultural life, we have selected for you three must-see museums: the Museum of Paper, the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image and the Angoulême Museum. The Museum of Paper offers a retrospective on the history of the papermaking process, while the Cité Internationale de la Bande Dessinée et de l’Image, ideal place for a family trip, is home to a museum and a library dedicated to comics and often hosts exhibitions. The Cité also has an art-house cinema. The Angoulême Museum has one of the most ancient and important collection of works from Africa and Oceania and will give you the opportunity to admire paintings, sculpture and ceramics.
